Portfolio Overview

SpaceTech's business approach is based on a portfolio of activities and products that are attributed to five major segments:

  • Space mission / system design and engineering
  • Development and procurement of spacecraft and instrument equipment
  • Provision of launch services
  • Terrestrial applications with focus on Environmental Monitoring Systems
  • Consultancy and engineering services

The activities in the first two segments represent SpaceTech's core business. The mutual two-way competence enrichment between the two segment levels forms the basis for SpaceTech’s successful undertakings and a sustainable participation in the space business. The other three segments amend and support this core business in a valuable way. They expand SpaceTech's activity base, broaden its expertise and capability spectrum and have particular significance for the positioning in export markets.

Key projects on space mission and system level include the participation in the DLR programmes LEO (Lunar Exploration Orbiter), DEOS (Deutsche Orbitale Servicing Mission), in the ESA programme Sentinel-5 Precursor and in ARGO/Formosat-5, a mission of the Taiwanese space agency NSPO. Some of these programmes are still in study phases and provide opportunities for further substantial contributions from SpaceTech during implementation.

In the context of the project MPSP (Multi Purpose Small Platform) SpaceTech has developed a concept for robust and reliable satellite platforms. This project has great relevance for our engagements on system level as it allows us to provide platforms for applications in science and optical missions, the latter featuring a range of different performance classes with regard to resolution and agility. MPSP has been funded by company R&D resources and has received financial support from DLR.

Important projects in the area of space component development comprise the delivery of a complete solar generator system including deployment mechanism and the related actuator electronics for the Turkish programme GökTürk-2, the solar array deployment mechanism for Kompsat-3 in Korea and a large package of equipment for ARGO/Formosat-5 that SpaceTech has provided in addition to design and development support on mission and system level. This package includes the primary satellite structure, developed by SpaceTech and a set of platform equipment that has been specified and procured under SpaceTech responsibility.

These projects demonstrate our success in the export markets. It is our objective to achieve a similar penetration of the equipment markets in Europe.
