Korean Ocean Bottom System (KOBS)

Un­der the sys­tem leadership of SpaceTech a local Tsu­nami warning system has been installed in December 2006 for the Korean Mete­o­ro­logical Agency (KMA).

The system is based on pressure and seismic sensors installed off shore the Korean island Ullong-Do on the ocean bottom in a depth of 2000 m.

KOBS System Concept

The sensors are con­nec­ted to a land based data reception station on the island Ullong-Do via sea cables. On a continuous basis and in real-time the system delivers all relevant data necessary for a timely detection of Tsunami waves approaching the Korean coast.

The system has been realized with com­po­nents from the German manufactures Nord­deutsche See­kabelwerke AG and SEND GmbH.
