German Indonesian Tsunami Warning System
In close cooperation with the Geoforschungs-Zentrum (GFZ) in Potsdam, SpaceTech has elaborated the concept for the German Indonesian Tsunami Warning System (GITEWS). The implemented system consists of
- primary sensors as buoys, ocean bottom sensors, land based seismometers and GPS based accelerometers
- data processing facilities
- the warning control centre
As part of the system implementation SpaceTech has signed responsible for
- the initial project coordination in support of GFZ
- the implementation of communication link between primary sensors, data processing facilities and the warning control centre.
The communication system consisting of the VSAT Hub, BGAN and IRIDIUM terminals is successfully installed and operational.
Software Design and Implementation
Moreover, SpaceTech was significantly involved in the design and implementation of software for the GITEWS project. This includes software for the Warning Centre:
- design and implementation of components, interfaces and dataflows within the Warning Centre software
- design and implementation of interfaces between warning centre and sensor stations
- integration and performance verification tests on component and system level
as well as software for the tsunami buoys and tide gauges deployed in the field:
- design and implementation of the main management software for buoys and tide gauges
- driver software for different scientific subsystems (including, but not limited to underwater communication software for Ocean Bottom Unit, solar array regulation software, battery manager control, various datalogger-specific drivers)
- integration, test and verification of different satellite communication facilities on buoys and tide gauges
- operation system (Linux) tuning for embedded systems
Due to this insight view, SpaceTech supported GFZ in complex design decisions on component and system level, likewise.
